About the Carolyn and Mac Sinclair Award

The Carolyn and MacGregor (Mac) Sinclair Award is an honour bestowed by Health Sciences North (HSN) Foundation, recognizing individuals, groups or organizations whose leadership brings people, communities and causes together to strengthen healthcare, inspires collective action and creates lasting impact across Northeastern Ontario.

Established in memory of Carolyn Sinclair, who passed away in November 2024, and in honour of Mac Sinclair, the award carries forward their shared legacy of leadership, service and philanthropy. For more than five decades, Carolyn and Mac dedicated their time, talents and resources to strengthening healthcare, education and communities across the North.

Before her passing in November 2024, Carolyn dedicated decades to serving her community and bringing people together. An educator, volunteer and community leader, she contributed her leadership to organizations including the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Laurentian University, the Trillium Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society, among many others. Carolyn also gave her time to HSN as a volunteer, welcoming patients, families and visitors at the front desk and helping them find their way throughout the hospital.

Mac, a respected Sudbury lawyer and long-time community leader, built a career grounded in service, trust and a deep commitment to the North. His dedication to healthcare spanned decades, including 30 years of service on the Board of the Northern Cancer Foundation, from 1992 to 2022, as well as serving as Chair of Health Sciences North’s Medical Ethics Committee.

Together, Carolyn and Mac championed causes that strengthened healthcare, created opportunities and inspired others to become involved in their communities. The Carolyn and Mac Sinclair Award honours those who carry their legacy forward through leadership, service and a commitment to strengthening communities across Northeastern Ontario.
