Our History
Uniting Generations of Generosity to Transform Healthcare in Northeastern Ontario.
Over the years, our community has been profoundly impacted by the dedicated efforts of various Foundations established to support healthcare needs. In 1998, the Sudbury Regional Hospital was established, and the previous Laurentian and Sudbury Memorial Hospital Foundations merged to form the Sudbury Regional Hospital Foundation (SRHF).
Together with the Northern Cancer Foundation (originally Northern Cancer Research Foundation, founded in 1992), SRHF became instrumental in revolutionizing healthcare in our region. The two foundations played a crucial role in fundraising for vital medical equipment, a catheterization lab, critical care beds, and ultimately the construction of a one-site hospital through the Heart & Soul capital campaign.
In 2011, Sudbury Regional Hospital transformed into Health Sciences North (HSN), and its fundraising partner, SRHF, became the Health Sciences North Foundation. In 2016, the NEO Kids Foundation was formed to help further address needs specific to pediatric care at HSN.
The collaboration between the Health Sciences North Foundation, NEO Kids Foundation, and the Northern Cancer Foundation has been nothing short of extraordinary. Together, these Foundations have spearheaded numerous successful fundraising campaigns, including fundraising for the COVID-19 Support Fund and the MRI campaign, dramatically enhancing patient care.
In October 2024, a new era began as these three Foundations united to form a single, cohesive Foundation: the HSN Foundation. The HSN Foundation continues to work diligently to support the mission of all three of its previous Foundations enhancing patient care, research projects, and hospital spaces for pediatric patients, cancer patients, and all residents across Northeastern Ontario.
