For the month of April, Chris’ Independent Grocer is inviting customers to
make a difference in the lives of children in need of critical care by supporting Health
Sciences North Foundation (HSNF) through Carts for Kids, a campaign where every
grocery cart helps support local children’s healthcare. All month, shoppers at Chris’
Independent on Lorne Street can donate at the cash register or online to help fund
specialized pediatric care for the youngest patients in our community, helping to keep
Northeastern Ontario (NEO) kids close to home.
“As a community-focused business, we believe in giving back to the people who support us
every day. Together, it’s an opportunity to support local children facing serious health
challenges. Health Sciences North plays a crucial role in our community, and supporting
their foundation—especially for pediatric care—aligns with our values of giving back to help
every family access the best healthcare possible,” said Chris Cummings, owner of Chris’
Independent Grocer. “We’re proud to contribute to a cause that directly impacts the wellbeing of children and families in Sudbury.”
The NEO Kids and Family Program at Health Sciences North (HSN) provides care for
families and children from 20 weeks of gestation to 17 years old. Last year, the program saw
nearly 40,000 pediatric patient visits, and of those, approximately 1,600 children had to leave
the Northeast for care. Through your generous support, Chris’ Independent and HSN
Foundation are working to reduce the number of families travelling outside of Sudbury for
care and ensure NEO kids receive the care they need right here in Sudbury.
The Carts for Kids campaign encourages customers to make donations conveniently at the
cash register or to donate online at https://hsnf.akaraisin.com/ui/DIY/p/CartsForKids. Every
donation, no matter the amount, directly contributes to keeping children close to home for
their healthcare needs.
“This fundraiser will help provide essential resources for pediatric care at HSN, ensuring that
children in our community receive the best possible treatment close to home. By rallying
together, we can ease the burden on families and support HSNF’s mission to enhance
healthcare services. It’s more than just raising money—it’s about building a healthier future
for our community’s youngest members,” Chris remarked. “The funds raised will be used to
purchase specialized medical equipment, support family services, and enhance pediatric
facilities at HSN.”
“We are grateful to Chris’ Independent for their unwavering support of pediatric care,” said
Chelsea Parent, HSN Foundation’s Community Engagement Specialist. “This partnership is
vital in ensuring that we can provide the best possible care for children and families who
need it most. We invite the community to join us in this important mission.”
This impactful campaign is made possible thanks to the generous support of our sponsor,
Toppers Pizza, whose dedication to community initiatives is invaluable, and Sign City, whose
commitment to local causes strengthens our ability to make a meaningful difference.
With every dollar donated, Carts for Kids helps ensure that our NEO Kids thrive at every
stage of their childhood, fostering health and well-being for years to come.
