Staff Story: Celebrating Ashley and Evan for National Nursing Week
Ashley and Evan are both Nurse Practioners in the Shirley and Jim Fielding Northeast Cancer Centre at HSN who spend their time caring for patients and families undergoing cancer treatment.
Ashley has worked in multiple areas of care at HSN, including the ICU and Heart Failure Clinic, before finding her passion for oncology nursing where she now works as a nurse practitioner in the Complex Malignant Hematology Program. In her role, Ashley sees patients in the follow up clinic and assists with the diagnostic process by performing invasive procedures such as bone marrow biopsies. “The best part of my job is getting to collaborate with specialists with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. There are many opportunities for professional growth and the ever-evolving field of cancer care provides ongoing learning experiences to expand my knowledge and skills. I enjoy working with the exceptional team at the Cancer Centre and supporting patients throughout their diagnosis.”
Evan’s started as a Registered Nurse at HSN in 2016, working mostly in the inpatient medicine where he developed a passion in oncology. “The best part of my job is certainly caring for people and being alongside them through their cancer journey and being able to collaborate alongside colleagues who share a passion for delivering exceptional care. I enjoy getting to know my patients and their families; celebrating their successes or being a shoulder to lean on. These are the driving forces which motivates me each day.”
This #NursingWeek we are celebrating Ashley, Evan, and all nurses at HSN and across Northeastern Ontario for the positive impact they make to care. Thank you for your dedication, selflessness, and compassion to enhancing healthcare!
