When Every Moment Matters

In early November, Brad and his family were facing the unimaginable. His mother had just been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer, and suddenly every day counted.

“When my mother was diagnosed, our family felt hopeless,” Brad shared. “But all of the staff at HSN was truly remarkable.”

During that incredibly difficult time, the compassion and care his family received left a lasting impression. It was that experience that motivated Brad and his wife, Anya, to give back in a meaningful way.

Through HSN Foundation’s Giving Tuesday campaign, and with the support of the matching donor Bull Powertrain, Brad and his family made a generous $10,000 donation in honour of his mother, Vicki. Their gift was doubled, helping to support critical priorities at Health Sciences North, including advanced imaging technology used in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

“When someone you love is given such a challenging diagnosis, literally every day counts,” Brad said. “My mother’s condition changed by the day, and her time was limited. New imaging technology that processes patients faster means treatment sooner and potentially more time with loved ones.”

For Brad and Anya, supporting faster diagnostic technology was deeply personal. When circumstances change quickly, timely imaging can make all the difference, helping care teams act sooner and giving families more time together when it matters most.

“Every dollar counts, and we have no shortage of needs in the North,” Brad shared. “My mother always believed in taking care of those around you.”

Vicki sadly passed away just weeks after her diagnosis. Today, his family’s gift stands as a lasting tribute to her life and a powerful reflection of the care they received. Their generosity is helping ensure patients across Northeastern Ontario have access to timely, effective cancer diagnosis and treatment when they need it most.
